How to use this document
Take the photo close and in focus, with something for scale (a coin, a pen tip). For droppings, photograph them on a white paper towel. For damage (chewed bags, holes), include the whole item. Text it to (801) 477-0223 with the city and what kind of room it was in. You will get the name of the pest and the page on this site that covers it. The identification is the author's professional opinion from a photograph; it is not a substitute for a technician's inspection, and it never obligates you to anything.
What a good photo shows
- The whole insect, top view, in focus, with a coin or pen tip for scale
- Droppings on a white background, with scale
- The place it was found (a second, wider photo)
- For a trap or glue board: the whole board, flat, in good light
